You are right 17 + 8 = 25. Was this something you just knew or did you have to work it out, this task was asking you to explain how you got from "I am 8" (something you knew) to how many years are between 8 and 25.
Lots of the time in school your teachers will ask you how you worked something out and to write it down or explain it and it can be frustrating if you just know the right answer but they still want an explanation from you. I was like that in school, I just knew the answer and that felt good enough.
